This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 01, 2008:
Art is an aesthetic awareness that can't be put into words. Words can act as a vehicle for this, leading to this aesthetic awareness, but it shouldn't be confused with being defined in words, because words can be reductionist. For example, I could stare at the sunset and no words are necessary. This is the difference between the transrational and the rational. Words and art serve as a symbol and vehicle for aesthetic awareness, in this way art acts as a signpost, a holon. It points to itself, but also points to the surrounding world around us. We can see this aesthetic awareness all around us, if we are willing to open our eyes and hearts. We are surrounded by beauty, love, and truth. This is what art is for. For pointing us towards this, and deepening our appreciation of life.
